Fabric

You will be cutting your pattern pieces out of a larger piece of pre-quilted fabric. You can use an existing quilt or make your own. To do so you will need 3 layers: fabric for both top & backing, and batting (also called wadding) for the middle. Your top fabric could be patchworked, or wholecloth. Quilt batting is usually cut larger than the fabric layers to account for shifting during the quilting process. Light-mid weight cotton or linen is recommended. If using a midweight layer, we suggest pairing it with a lightweight layer to reduce bulk for easier handling.

Yardage for all sizes:

  • 50cm (1/2 yard) of fabric.
    • if using different fabric for quilt top and backing, then you’ll need 25cm (1/4 yard) of each.
  • 25cm (1/4 yard) of batting.
  • 50cm (1/2 yard) to make bias tape/binding.
    • or, you can purchase pre-made bias tape.

Total length of bias tape required:

  • 0-3 months: 140cm (55")
  • 3-6 months: 160cm (63")
  • 6-12 months: 180cm (71")
  • 12-18 months: 200cm (80")
  • 18-24 months: 230cm (90")
  • 2-4 years: 254cm (100")

PDF Printing

This free pattern is a print-at-home pattern.

To print at home, open the file in your preferred browser and print at 100% scale. The file is designed for both A4 & US Letter paper. Printing from Google Chrome offers the best result because each page will align in the upper left hand corner. This way the pattern can easily be tiled together without needing to trim any edges. Utilize the test square on the first page to check your scale.

This pattern comes layered, which means that you can turn off the sizes you do not need. In order to do this, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. You can then open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat Reader and choose the layers icon on the left hand side of the screen. Once the layers are open, click the eye icon off on all the sizes you do not want to be visible.
